Election Information 2022 | Episode 2
Welcome to the second addition to our 4-part 2022 election series. Last week we focused on election basics and provided all of the needed online links to help anyone register to vote and understand the 3 major alternative ways of voting.
This week we are focused on important elections that do not always get a lot of public attention – the races for the Ohio House in the State Legislature. Why are members of the Ohio House important to physicians? These elected officials determine a great deal of the policy that governs the practice of medicine – issues range from scope of practice to prescription practices to reproductive health regulations.
In this election, there are new districts for the Ohio Legislature. To find out who is your State Representative, go to findmydistrict.ohiosos.gov. You just enter your voting address and find your state legislators, as well as your Member of Congress.
A group of CMA physicians helped to interview potential Central Ohio legislators. These CMA physicians made recommendations to the Ohio State Medical Association for endorsements in Franklin County races. OSMA made the final decisions on endorsements, which can be found here. The Franklin County Ohio House Districts are the first 11 on the list. And this list contains two CMA physician members who are on the ballot – Dr. Beth Liston is running for re-election to her third term. And Dr. Anita Somani is a first-time candidate.
CMA members are encouraged to vote for the candidates of their choice, including those candidates in less visible races like the Ohio House of Representatives.
