8 Questions With: Dr. Scott Van Aman

  1. Where were you born/raised? I was born and raised here in Columbus.

  2. What made you decide to become a physician? My dad was a doctor so I grew up hearing stories of his medical adventures as the dinner table. I saw how much he enjoyed practicing medicine and decided to follow in his footsteps.

  3. To celebrate the CMA’s Culinary Medicine Community what is your favorite meal to cook? I enjoy cooking for family, friends, and neighbors on our Big Green Egg.  We smoke pork butts, ribs, brisket, chicken, and sausage.

  4. Last tv show you binged?  I watched all 8 seasons of Game of Thrones with my wife Debbie.  No spoilers, but it wasn’t the ending we expected.

  5. What’s your favorite part of being a physician?  I love being an Orthopedic Surgeon because I get to help patients make relatively rapid improvements in their quality of life.  It’s very gratifying to share their joy in achieving their goals.

  6. What hobbies do you participate in your free time?  I am a youth lacrosse coach and currently serve as President of the Upper Arlington Lacrosse Association.

  7. When you’re able to travel freely again, where is the first place you’d like to go?  Kiawah Island, South Carolina has been our family’s favorite vacation spot for 40 years.  We can’t wait to go back.

  8. What is the first concert you attended? The Grateful Dead at Buckeye Lake.
