Nurturing Professional and Personal Wellness: Insights from the CMA Practice Manager Meetings

Earlier this month, Columbus Medical Association's Practice Manager community kicked off its 2024 meetings with a major focus on professional and personal wellness. The goal for the group this year is to gather information from experts that can be applied at work and aid in fostering meaningful connections with peers.

The first meeting of the year delve into the crucial role of assertive communication skills in supporting mental wellness in the workplace. Led by speaker Rebecca Jacobs, Esp, SHRM-SCP, attendees embarked on the journey of self-reflection and practical skill development aimed at enhancing their communication and boundary-setting capabilities.

CMA practice manager meetings are crafted to facilitate networking and engagement with like-minded peers who understand the daily challenges of their roles as practice managers.

Jacobs drew from her extensive legal background and academic expertise to explore the connection between assertive communication and mental health wellness. It can be hard to combine the two while trying to remain sympathetic and professional in the workplace. Through interactive exercises and discussions, practice managers explored their current position on the assertiveness spectrum and learned about strategies to further hone this essential skill.

Meeting attendee, Erica Brown, says the meeting offered a refreshing space to connect with other management professionals.

“This forum affords a diverse group of management professionals/practice managers to come together and not only learn from our shared experiences with one another, but also CMA brings in an array of external presenters and guests who always share informative and helpful information.” Brown said.

Following the informative session, attendees could ask questions and hold round table discussions to seek clarification, share insights, and engage in collaborative problem-solving. This interactive forum encourages participation and ensures that attendees leave with practical takeaways they can immediately apply in their lives.

CMA Practice Manger meetings offer a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to prioritize their mental wellbeing in the workplace and their personal lives. Not everyone knows how difficult it can be to run a successful medical practice, but it is programs like this which strive to help make it an easier task. As we navigate the complexities of the modern workplace, investing in professional and personal wellness becomes not only a priority, but a crucial step towards long-term success and fulfillment.
